Healing from ulcerative colitis can be possible despite what many people will tell you. I have had great success with many natural practices over the past 7 years for ulcerative colitis. I hope my story is encouraging to those out there who are struggling with this condition.

My Healing Story
In 2013 my life was changed completely. I started having severe digestive issues while I was in college and had no idea what was going on. My family has a history of digestive issues, so naturally we thought it was just genetic. I went for a colonoscopy and was told there were ulcers in my colon and that it was ulcerative colitis.
This was a shock to me, as I had never heard of this disease before. I was honestly embarrassed by it and didn’t share it with too many people for obvious reasons. From 2013-2015 I struggled tremendously with weight loss and overall health as my digestive tract was constantly inflamed. I felt as though my life would never be normal and even questioned the thought “would I be able to have children”? Little did I know, my life was about to change for the better.
This topic still gets me so emotional. I vividly remember the hard times that truly were a struggle with this condition. I thought my life would never be the same but boy was I so wrong. There was so much more gained from this than I could have ever imagined. In 2014, I met my husband, whose family knew about natural health. Their knowledge and advice has led me to where I am today. I give glory to God for this amazing testimony that I hope can be encouraging to others on this journey. In this journey, I have found the Lord and really put my faith and trust in him. There is no other way to describe the strength that he has given me over the past 9 years.
There is Always Hope
Today, I can honestly say, I have never been healthier. Through working with naturopathic doctors and trusted practitioners, I am healthy and thriving. Although the journey to get here wasn’t always beautiful or easy, by the grace of God, I made it here. This is my testimony, not to compare yourself to, but to be encouraged that healing is possible without medication. I haven’t taken a prescription in over 7 years, praise the Lord. My healing journey has been accompanied by God, herbs, lymphatice drainage, ozone therapy, diet, lifestyle changes and support from my family.
What is Ulcerative Colitis
Ulcerative colitis is an Irritable bowel disease that causes ulcers in the digestive tract that can be accompanied by bleeding, pain, constipation, and diarrhea. Many people that have this condition will not be able to absorb nutrients properly since the digestive tract is compromised. We know that the digestive tract is considered our second brain. So, if it isn’t functioning properly it can throw off a lot of other normal bodily functions. Despite what many people will say about irritable bowel disease, these conditions can be managed without medication. I have personally had great success using herbs and natural forms of detoxing to clear my body of all pathogens that could lead to inflammation in the colon.
Lymphatic Drainage for Ulcerative Colitis
After meeting my husband and his family, they taught me about lymphatic drainage. I quickly became certified to be a lymphatic therapist because of the great success I had with it. Lymphatic drainage is the process of ridding the body of toxic waste and inflammation. The lymphatic system is known as the waste system of the body, meaning it helps to collect waste and get it out of the body. We get rid of these toxic wastes through natural means of elimination.
As you can imagine, the digestive system is so important to the lymphatic system. If our digestive tract is off, our lymphatic system can become clogged. This means all of the toxic waste, can not leave the body properly. In order for our bodies to heal properly, we have to get the lymphatic system flowing. Once I started getting lymphatic drainage done, I noticed a decrease of inflammation in my GI tract. After every session, my digestion improved tremendously. Finding someone in your area that is certified in the Vodder technique can benefit you greatly!
Herbs For Ulcerative Colitis
Herbs can be incredible for anyone on their healing journey, if used properly. When I started seeing my practitioner, this was our first line of defense. To my surprise, it’s still my best line of defense when it comes to keeping everything in check. I did not see a dramatic difference until I started using a product line called Cell Core. Their supplements have changed my health in an incredible way. They focus on getting rid of parasites before diving into deeper root cause issues. Once I started doing their parasite cleanse, my digestive tract was back to functioning normal. You do have to work with a practitioner in order to purchase their supplements but they do have a sister company named Microbe Formulas. Microbe Formulas are great if you want to start a parasite cleanse. They also have great customer service if you have any questions.
Always remember before starting a cleanse, your drainage pathways have to be opened. Your liver, kidneys, and bowels should all be working properly in order to perform any detox protocol. I suggest finding a practitioner who is aware of opening drainage pathways and can walk you through a parasite cleanse. Detoxing is not a joke, and should be taken seriously because if not done properly, it can do more harm than good. Herbs are apart of every detox protocol and have been a blessing in my life.
Ozone is the purest form of oxygen, known as 03. As you already know, oxygen is necessary for the body and a big part in healing. This is another great modality to use while in your healing journey. It’s known for killing pathogens and mold throughout the body. We have an ozone machine that has been a huge blessing along the way. If you don’t want to invest in a big expensive machine, Therasage has an ozone bubbler that can be used to make ozonated water and also be used to take an ozonated bath. Therasage did give a discount for my readers, you can click here to receive 10% off of your order and use code NATURALFAMILY at checkout..
There are many ways you can do ozone. You can use your machine to make ozonated water and drink it to help kill off pathogens in the GI tract. Some people like to do ozone insufflations in the rectum or vagina to help add oxygen to the area and kill pathogens. I personally found drinking the water was the best for me. Doing the rectal insufflation can be iffy if the colon is already flared, so I would hold off on that until the colon is calm and functioning properly. You can always reach out to Promo life for any questions regarding their products.
(Beware with ozone, you cannot breathe in strong or large amounts of 03.)
Diet and Lifestyle Changes
Diet and Lifestyle changes will be something that you will have to learn as you go. What works for one person’s diet may not work for another person’s. Everyone’s body responds differently to food during their healing journey. I find keeping your diet as basic as possible in the beginning can take away a lot of stress. Focus on eating whole foods such as fruits and vegetables. Great quality meat, grassfed, organic pasture raised chicken (& eggs), and wild caught fish. Stay away from processed and packaged foods as much as you can. These foods contain so many unnecessary additives that contribute to inflammation. Conventional dairy is another contributor to inflammation. You may find you can tolerate raw milk since it is easily digestible and has healing properties.
Lifestyle changes can be overwhelming sometimes. Take it one step at a time and do it without overwhelming yourself. Switch out your make up for non-toxic make up and your hair care for non-toxic shampoo. Same thing with cleaning products, opt for non-toxic options to keep you safe and breathing in things that wont harm your body. There are so many great brands out there that make this transition easy! The products you put on your skin, can affect your health greatly since they’re absorbed in the bloodstream. Many products contain hormone disrupters which can inhibit your body from truly healing. A great resource is the EWG/skindeep database. You can search for a product’s safety before buying it, I highly recommend it!
With all things new, remember to be kind to yourself and take it one step at a time. With the right support system and tools, you will be on your way to a healthier you! I hope this was encouraging to you and would love for you to share it with anyone struggling with something similar!
